The Village of Chipman is located on the banks of the Salmon River, at the head of Grand Lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in the Maritime provinces.
Chipman maintains a peaceful, rural setting while offering year-round recreation, community events, and easy access to all needed services.
Chipman is centrally located as a hub to the major cities of Saint John, Fredericton, Moncton, and Miramichi.
The closest city is Fredericton, the provincial capital, where additional resources such as a commercial airport and shopping malls are located.
Daily bus service is available for travel to and from Fredericton.
The Trans-Canada highway is a mere 40 km to the east, facilitating travel to most destinations both in and out of the province. The Chipman Marine Wharf, located at the head of Tital waters on the Salmon River, provides docking for water craft that travel the Grand Lake or the Sea. It is the only area on the lake that provides a vast number of services within walking distance. Also offered is a local airfield with a paved runway suitable for light aircraft.
Historically, Chipman’s industrial base was grounded in forestry, coal, and brick. The tradition continues with the ultra-modern facility of J.D. Irving Woodlands Ltd. and Grand Lake Timber Ltd. They process much of the abundantly available local timber--the main source of economic growth in the area.
